I've already tested the bluetooth adapter and it works perfectly with no speed lag like with GPS. I am also going to use an OBDII bluetooth adapter for future events that will allow me to pull engine RPM and vehicle speed straight from the ECU - eliminating the lag from the GPS calculated speed. I have purchased an adapter cable for future events that will allow me to plug the camera into the car via USB for power and use an external microphone - effectively solving the poor battery life and mediocre sound. In my opinion, the calculated speed is almost useless for autocross - though would probably be fine for a road course. The problem with this is that it introduces a 2-3 second lag between the calculated vehicle speed and the actual vehicle speed. If you're not using an OBD adapter (like I wasn't for this autocross), then the Virb is left to calculate vehicle speed via GPS. I'm sure there are minor differences in video quality, but nothing that would be a deal breaker for most people.

Video quality wise, I found the Virb and the Gopro 3 Black about the same. I suspect this audio performance is on par with Gopro, so not much to complain about here.

If the camera were outside the car, audio would be completely unusuable. There was a fair amount of wind buffetting on the video - and I have the camera mounted behind the driver's seat. The built-in microphone (predictably) isn't very good either. My best run of the day was on run 6 so unfortunately I wasn't able to capture that on video.

I thought for sure I would get the full 8 runs in on a single charge, but that was not the case. I played with the camera a little bit before the autocross (10-15 minutes or so) and was only able to get in FOUR runs before the battery in the Virb ran dead. Once you load the video into the Virb Edit software, you can select from a number of pre-made templates for the overlays as well as fully customize something on your own. Much of the data captured by the camera (and it is a LOT) isn't particularly relevant to driving - such as pitch/roll, and elevation - but it's there if you ever decide you want to use it. The data I'm interested in is acceleration, speed, gps maps, lap timing, and a few other things.

What really drew me to this camera were the built in sensors that allow you to record performance data while driving. I recently bought a Garmin Virb X to replace my Gopro 3 Black for driving events.
